The sour golden saison was so nice, MASH decided to make it twice (thrice actually!)- After the original fill, there were two solera pulls on 2/6/19 (documented below) and 6/17/19.
10/14/18 – It was time for Beer #4, and the recipe settled on was a Tired Hands Orison clone. (Barrel King @hungusbrews taking a sample) This was also moving day for the barrel as it traveled from Casa Jambor to The Hocken House of Fine Ales and Pizza!
5/14/18 – Our Oud Bruin had it’s only Solera pull @ Casa Jambor and after an earlier sample was pulled some decided that it was calling out “fruuuiiittt..”
12/3/17 – Having provided enough tart nectar for all, it was decided that the time had come for a complete rack and refill. Next up was an Oud Bruin.
8/21/2016 – Flanders Red Fill! 2/10/2017, Solera pull #1. 5/18/2017, Solera pull #2. Niiiiiiiice.
Well crap, it went sour. Dang, we were hoping to get a few clear beers out of this. But wait, it’s good!? Next stop: SOLERA PROJECT. Vote: Flanders Red.
8/2/2015 – The first fill of the first MASH barrel: an Imperial Stout!
A long time ago (before NEIPA’s were a thing maybe?) MASH invested in a Bourbon barrel with the goal of beginning a long-term group project. Members sticking their name in the hat (or mug probably) were selected to all brew the same recipe, put their share in and one day take it out. All of the benefits of barrel aging, blending, tender love and care, and none of the upkeep. Except for the host of course. 😉
